Erik ten Hag’s future will be decide at a board meeting on Tuesday. With Ruud van Nistelrooy set to take charge on an interim basis if the decision is made.

The UFABET, a British media outlet, reported that Manchester United have scheduled a regular executive meeting in London on Tuesday. October 8, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The key issue is Ten Hag’s future.

Ratcliffe, who is the head of Manchester United’s football operations, will meet with executives including chief executive Omar Berrada. Sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox to decide whether Ten Hag should remain as head coach.

When ask last week about Ten Hag’s future, Ratcliffe indicate he would leave any decision to the executive. “I don’t want to answer that question,” said the billionaire, who owns 27.7% of United. 

“I like Erik, I think he’s a very good coach but at the end of the day it’s not my call.

“It’s the management team that’s running Manchester United. That have to decide how we best run the team in many different respects. But that team that’s running Manchester United has only been together since June or July. They weren’t there in January, February, March or April – Omar, Dan, they only arrived in July.”

While it is unlikely Manchester United will sack Ten Hag during the October international break following Sunday’s goalless draw at Aston Villa. Van Nistelrooy will be promote to the caretaker role if the club’s executives choose to see a change.

If Van Nistelrooy takes over as caretaker head coach and impresses. He could be consider for a permanent role, similar to what happened to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in late 2018.

Meanwhile, United players Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Noussair Mazraoui have pulled out of the upcoming international matches for Argentina, England and Morocco respectively “as a precaution”, the club said on Monday. United said Mainoo has been “managing an issue” in recent games.

Other potential permanent successors to Ten Hag include the Brentford manager Thomas Frank.
